Tis the Season

Christmas is my favorite time of the year! Just ask my husband or my family. It is so much fun to decorate (I'll be posting a picture of my tree once we get it up!), to bake, to buy gifts for people, and, of course, to receive gifts.

But, Christmas represents so much more. It's easy to become overwhelmed when the media and the stores constantly throw advertisements in our faces wanting us to buy buy buy. But there are so many people who will not have a Christmas. I cannot even begin to fathom how it would feel to wake up on Christmas morning and not have ANY presents under the tree from ANYONE. My family has been fortunate enough to never have to deal with this situation, but I recently became aware of the reality.

Yesterday, I helped my mom carry in two huge garbage bags full of toys for a Salvation Army child from their Angel Tree program. Her social studies class had collected the objects, and my mom had purchased several items as well. When we handed the bags over to the Wal-Mart worker, her face lit up and said "Someone's going to have a nice Christmas." I held in my hands a little kid's Christmas morning. I was moved. God slapped me in the face because I had been worried all morning about what I was going to purchase for someone. He was like, "Hey you! This is all this kid will get. Be grateful."

Just be grateful...

Welcome Friends

Welcome to the Recreational Word Slinger...also known as a leisurely writer...or someone who writes occasionally.

I think the title describes me well. I like to write, but I don't always have the time to do so. One of my favorite topics to discuss is the relationship I have with my God and how it impacts my life. I recently discovered an amazing worship song. I enjoy listening to sermons by a guy named Pete Wilson from Crosspoint Church in Nashville. He recently did a series called "This is Our God." I have watched 2 of the messages, and can't wait to see the remaining ones. Do yourself a favor and visit www.crosspoint.tv and access these sermons.

Back to the song..."This is Our God" is a song done by Hillsong, with amazing lyrics and unbelievable accompanying music. I got chills when I watched it. I'm (hopefully) going to embed it below, so I can save you some clicks. Enjoy.
